ProTaper Next files are made with proven M-Wire NiTi. This patented alloy offers greater flexibility than traditional NiTi for navigating even challenging canals. It also provides greater resistance to cyclic fatigue, the leading cause of file separation. The result is added flexibility and strength when you need it most.
Unlike ProTaper Universal’s concentric core that creates symmetric rotary motion, ProTaper Next features a patented off-center, rectangular core that adds greater strength as the file tracks down the canal. The patented design’s axis of rotation differs from the center of mass. As a result, only two points of the rectangular cross section touch the canal wall at a time.

I instrumented #30 and #31 (photos below) within two weeks of one another. Diagnosis was: symptomatic irreversible pulpitis with normal apical periodontium. Protocol employed was: Pathfile, followed by ProTaper Next to size X2 (25.06), copious EDTA, NaOCl, and QMix 2in1 as the final rinse with lots of EndoActivator use. Obturation was completed with the new formulation of Dentsply Sirona's ProTaper Next gutta-percha cones and ThermaSeal Plus Ribbon sealer. Both teeth exhibited lateral canals on the distal roots, a surpise that I did not expect but do see regularly. The multi-tapered gutta-percha master cones give me an unprecedented ability to fill both lateral and accessory anatomy. Separation of the apical down pack and heat source is clean and easy."
