Clinical Image of a cavity access

Cavity Access is a key factor to successful root canal treatment

Cavity Access is done either by Rotary Instruments, like the Cavity Access Set, or with Ultrasonic Tips, like  Start-X.

A well prepared access cavity and location of canal openings are recognized as key factors to the success of endodontic treatments

Start-X

Achieve higher control and precision with ultrasonic inserts specifically designed for access cavity refinement and canal orifice location.

The use of ultrasonic inserts is advised for these applications thanks to two main characteristics:

A great working precision

An incomparable view of the operative field

Start-X Tip Range

One tip - one clinical indication

Each tip has been designed for a specific indication and has the following main characteristics:

Micro milled active part
  • Minimized risk of potential diamond grit loss in the patient’s mouth
Water port
  • Cools down the insert and avoids overheating of the treated tooth. This is particularly important when removing metal posts which usually require high energy
  • The intermittent use of irrigation enables the clinician to alternate between dry precision work and debris evacuation
Excellent resistance to fracture

Cavity Access Kit

Our access kits, which were developed in tight collaboration with Dr. Ruddle, Machtou and West, will enable you to handle all possible cases and achieve your following objectives:

Remove the whole pulp roof to have access to all root canals

Have direct root canal access (without interferences) for better endodontic quality

Have an irrigation reservoir during root canal treatment

Provide a correct basis for the restoration

Tungsten Carbide Burs

Dentsply Maillefer’s tungsten carbide burs are cut from high tenacity, micro grain hard metal. After the cutting edges of the active part have been ground by a precision tool impregnated with fine grained diamond, each bur individually undergoes a strength test.

Our portfolio inlcudes:

Cavity Burs

Metal Burs

Endo Burs

Surgical Burs

Finishing Burs

Tungsten Carbide Burs Range

Recommended Speed

A rotation speed of 300’000 rpm is recommended for burs up to No. ISO 010. For sizes ISO 012 and above, the recommended speed is between 150’000 and 200’000 rpm.

Regardless of their diameter, burs which have an active part that is longer than 8mm must never be used at speeds in excess of 200’000 rpm.

Tungsten carbide burs are preferably used with a turbine or with a high speed handpiece. With the turbine, minimal pressure guarantees
better efficiency of the bur.
