Making Endodontics Faster, Safer, and More Predictable With Procedure Innovations

This program will show how you can perform endodontics more predictably, in less time and more safely, by incorporating endodontic innovations. Many recent advances in endodontic armamentaria and protocols have, for the better, simplified clinical endodontics.  By doing so, we can perform endodontics more efficiently and safely.  This will include innovations in diagnosis, instrumentation (including calcified canals), intra-canal disinfection, obturation, and single visit endodontics, amongst other aspects of endodontics.  Numerous practical tips, tricks, and tools will be highlighted to help you consistently perform root canal treatments more predictably.

Roles

Dentist/Specialist

Learning Objectives

Learn which innovations will help you consistently perform endodontics faster and more safely.

Learn how to predictably negotiate, instrument, and obturate calcified and curved canals.

Learn how to perform root canals and restore in a single visit with predictable outcomes and post-op comfort.

The Best Endodontic File: Does It Exist?

In the last several years, there has been an explosion in the number of new endodontic file systems introduced, with most manufacturers making claims of superiority for their design or metallurgy. With the confusion and misinformation around what might be the “best endodontic file”, it is increasingly difficult for practitioners to make informed choices about which design features can achieve the best clinical outcomes.  This case-based review of cutting-edge instrumentation options will place special emphasis on creating anatomically driven shapes that promote three-dimensional disinfection and filling of the root canal system, allowing clinicians to make the best instrumentation choice for any root canal anatomy.

Roles

Dentist/Specialist

Learning Objectives

Differentiate the design features and working characteristics of commonly used root canal instrumentation systems.

Understand the importance of root canal shaping to promote three-dimensional disinfection and obturation.

Efficiently perform more predictable endodontics.

Preventive

Leveraging Ultrasonics as a Triple Threat in the Hygiene Workflow

Advancements in ultrasonic technology have generated systems that are a ‘triple threat’ as they excel in the removal of biofilm, calculus, and stain. Most dental hygienists have ultrasonic equipment but many are not maximizing its potential. This session will provide an overview on how to use ultrasonic instruments to achieve increased efficacy and efficiency in prophy and SRP appointments. With the use of specialized camera, Dani will provide live technique demonstrations, discuss patient comfort, and unlock the secret of how to make sure you have the ultrasonic tips you want and need!

Roles

Hygienist

Learning Objectives

Describe a minimum of 3 technique modifications that can improve deposit removal, reduce treatment time, and decrease the use of hands instruments.

Analyze ultrasonic instrument designs and characteristics to identify which instruments are best defined as a triple threat in your practice.

Explain how to maximize the life of your ultrasonic instruments and what to do to ensure prompt replacement.

Immediate Implant Provisionalization in Healed and Immediate Extraction Sites

Developments in implant design allow us to not only place implants in both healed and extraction sites, but we can now predictably immediately load these implants in many cases. The quality of the bone we place implants into, the physical status of the patients we treat, and the prosthetic design are examples of the considerations that must be addressed when hoping to immediately load implants. Understanding the indications and challenges to immediately loading implants is the key to success. The new Prime Taper EV implant offers an incredibly stable and efficient implant design with all of the bone preservation features and benefits of the Astra Tech EV implant. Now we can immediately load with confidence whether we are considering a single tooth to full arch immediately loaded implants. The evolution of digital dentistry can facilitate this process with pre-surgically fabricated abutments and provisional restorations. We will explore the indications, contra-indications, challenges, and techniques involved with immediate load implant procedures. We will also peek at the impact that digital dentistry has on this treatment modality.

Keys to Successful Socket Augmentation and Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR)

Successful and esthetic implant therapy is highly dependent on reconstruction of deficient alveolar ridges. Whether performing a routine socket augmentation or a large horizontal and vertical guided bone regeneration procedure, the clinician must be able to provide an accurate diagnosis, generate an appropriate treatment plan, and execute predictable techniques. We are inundated with graft materials and augmentation techniques, where it is challenging to know how to approach each patient. What is the best material for augmenting an extraction socket? What membrane is most predictable for a vertical GBR procedure? Should implants be placed simultaneously with most bone grafts? These are common questions that clinicians face in their daily practice. This presentation will discuss the fundamental principles of bone grafting, from simple socket augmentation to more complicated alveolar ridge augmentation.

Roles

Dentist/Specialist

Learning Objectives

Discuss systemic and local patient factors that influence bone grafting success or failure.

Familiarize the participant with grafting techniques to regenerate deficient alveolar bone sites in preparation for implant placement.

SureSmile

SureSmile® and the GP Destructive Malocclusion Pathway

Although clear aligner therapy has proven to be an extremely effective treatment modality, many general dentists find it difficult to successfully integrate clear aligners into their practice and achieve widespread acceptance among their patient base.  The destructive malocclusion pathway represents a departure from the commonly accepted aesthetic approach to clear aligners. Utilization of the destructive malocclusion diagnostic screening protocol opens the door for the general practitioner and team to approach patients from a functional aspect. SureSmile clear aligner therapy represents an alternative treatment modality the general dentist can offer patients to help mitigate one of the most observed dental pathologies in adults. No more awkward conversations with patients trying to convince them to do cosmetic dentistry when health and function are their primary concerns. The destructive malocclusion pathway and workflow allows the doctor and team to seamlessly integrate an incredibly beneficial dental service into their family practice.
