Maintaining knowledge on infection control findings across the entire healthcare continuum of care are critical in today’s post-pandemic clinical dental practice. Every healthcare provider carries the responsibility for surface disinfection options and maintaining the CDC recommendations for surface disinfection. As new products and technology continue to emerge on surface disinfection it is critical that dental providers maintain current best practices in Environmental Infection Prevention and Control to emphasize the national, state, and local expectations for safe care. This course will inform dental professionals on the best practices for mitigating infectious disease, and current armamentarium available for completing this task in practice.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:
- Understand how microbes are spread.
- Describe how cleaning and disinfection can mitigate the spread of infectious diseases.
- Define effective cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices to prevent infections.
- List current CDC recommendations and OSHA guidelines regarding the potential hazards in clinical dental environments.
- Acquire the skills and techniques needed to properly utilize disinfection modalities for contaminated surface management.
- Describe current options available in the dental product marketplace for surface disinfection.
