Reciprocating endodontic treatment solution

Designed to enable shaping without an initial glidepath in most cases1, Reciproc Blue facilitates root canal preparation with only one reciprocating instrument. Reciproc Blue instruments are produced with Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) that undergoes innovative heat treatment to give it increased flexibility, resistance to cyclic fatigue and it's characteristic blue color. 

The reciprocating instrument alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. A rotation of 360° is completed in several reciprocating movements. Due to the fact that the rotation in the cutting direction is larger than the reverse rotation, the instrument advances towards the apex. Reciproc Blue is a universal and flexible instrument for the majority of cases.

Provided in sterile blisters for single use, Reciproc Blue instruments offer a reduced risk of cross contamination compared to non sterile, multiple use systems that need to be cleaned and re-sterilized.

An overuse of files is prevented thanks to the single use instrument approach.

Time

The s-shaped cross-section progresses smoothly and cuts efficiently thanks to its special design. The instrument moves without pushing, so that stress on dentin is minimized.

The root canal preparation time is reduced4. Less time for shaping means more time for disinfection and more patients treated5.

Files are made to be used for a single treatment only for constant cutting efficiency.

Flexible

The instrument progresses smoothly into the canal thanks to the heat treated NiTi alloy.

It is possible to prebend the instrument for an easier access to the canal.

The instrument follows the natural canal anatomy smoothly thanks to its blue heat treatment making the file more flexible5.

The flexibility obtained by the blue heat treatment improves the centering abilities of the instrument to reduce canal transportation5.

Variable taper

  • R25 for most of your cases:: Prepares the root canal to a diameter of 0.25 mm with a taper of .08 over the first apical millimeters.

  • R40 for medium canals: prepares the root canal to a diameter of 0.40 mm with a taper of .06 over the first apical milimeters.

  • R50 for large canals: prepares the root canal to a diameter of 0.50 mm with a taper of .05 over the first apical millimeters.

Frequently asked questions

The reciprocating movement is the most basic backwards and forwards movement that is known from hand files. Reciproc files use a very precise mechanical reciprocating movement: The instrument alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. A rotation of 360° is completed in several reciprocating movements. Since the rotation in the cutting direction is larger than the reverse rotation, the instrument advances towards the apex.

Reciproc instruments offer all the advantages attached to root canal preparation with only one instrument and the possibility to eliminate initial hand filing in the majority of cases without losing efficiency. The file design combined with its genuine motion lead to less instrument fracture1. Root canal preparation with Reciproc files is easy to learn compared to rotary systems – also for new users.

With the reciprocating technique, the instrument is advanced apically with a pecking motion in sets of three pecks. After each set of three pecks, remove the instrument, clean the flutes and irrigate the canal (see step by step card). In case of oval canals, the instruments should be used in a brushing motion to reach parts of the canal which are not reached with the pecking motion alone.

The reciprocating movement relieves stress on the instrument and, therefore, reduces the risk of cyclic fatigue caused by tension and compression. At the same time, reciprocation ensures that the instrument stays centered in the canals1.

1. Zuolo, M.L., M.C. Carvalho, and G. De-Deus, Negotiability of Second Mesiobuccal Canals in Maxillary Molars Using a Reciprocating System. J Endod, 2015. 41(11): p. 1913-7. Based on treatment of MB2 canals of more than 300 patients. The aim was to assess the frequency in which Reciproc R25 was able to directly scout and reach working lengths in comparison with hand files. In the hand file group working length was successfully reached in 57.48%. In the Reciproc R25 group the working length was successfully reached in 85.63% of cases.
