Course syllabus:

Explore each course below by expanding the accordion.

Foundational

Course 1: Endodontic Diagnosis I

Speaker: Dr. Cynthia Mercado Velaquez (Speaker Biography)

Discriminating the aetiology of oro-facial pain can be a significant challenge. This course will discuss how to use the medical and dental history and the patient's self-reported symptoms as well as a systematic clinical exam to build a solid foundation for an accurate diagnosis and aetiology of oral pain.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Summarise the importance of the clinical exam as it relates to endodontic treatment.

• Select and apply relevant tests to develop and confirm an endodontic diagnosis.

Course 2: Endodontic Diagnosis II: X-Ray Interpretation

Speaker: Prof. Francesco Mannocci (Speaker Biography)

Building on the principles of the first course, Endodontic Diagnosis I, we will cover the proper selection of 2D and CBCT radiographs. In addition, the creation of a technically accurate diagnosis and prospective prognosis will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Select appropriate radiographs.

• Interpret radiographic findings in the context of normal landmarks and pathology.

• Analyse clinical findings, tests, and radiographs to determine an accurate endodontic diagnosis.

Course 3: Fundamentals of the Pulp & the Aetiology of Pulpal Diseases

Speaker: Dr. Krishna Vyas (Speaker Biography)

The identification of an accurate endodontic diagnosis and the delivery of successful treatment is enhanced with a basic understanding of the histology and physiology of the dental pulp. Understanding the progression of pulpal and peri-radicular diseases will be a foundation for the principles of therapy that lead to clinical success. Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to identify key elements of the progression of pulpal and peri-radicular disease leading to the need for endodontic therapy.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Explain how the potential for healing is affected by pulpal metabolism and blood flow.

• Correlate clinical signs and symptoms to pulpal inflammation.

• Recognise the key elements in the progression of pulpal and peri-radicular disease.

Course 4: Endodontic Armamentarium

Speaker: Dr. Reid Pullen (Speaker Biography)

In addition to hand instrumentation, there are several options for mechanical instrumentation. The root canal tray set-up, shaping, cleaning, obturation, and other device options will be reviewed in this course.

In this course, the learner will be guided through the range of devices and systems available for successful endodontic treatment.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Recognise when and how to use the EndoActivator device.

• Describe the workflow for endodontic treatment using the family of options in the D/S line

• Distinguish between the uses of different manual files (e.g. K-files, H-files, C+ files, Nitiflex etc.)

• Classify the uses and differences between Rotary & Reciprocation

Procedure-based

Course 1: Endodontic Therapy - Anterior Tooth

Speaker: Dr. Omar Ikram (Speaker Biography)

The general practitioner seeking to provide endodontic care will most likely focus initially on anterior cases. An understanding of dental root anatomy and the proper access preparation shape will help assure successful completion of the endodontic procedure in the anterior.

This course will emphasise a systematic workflow using examples of several endodontic filing and obturation systems.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Select the proper techniques for shaping canals in the anterior.
  • Summarise the disinfection and obturation protocols for anterior teeth.
  • Identify the restorative options for endodontically-treated anterior teeth.

Course 2: Endodontic Therapy - Premolar Tooth

Speaker: Dr. V. Gopi Krishna (Speaker Biography)

The general practitioner seeking to expand their skill in providing endodontic care will have desire to treat premolar cases. An understanding of root anatomy and the proper access preparation shape will help assure successful completion of the endodontic procedure in the premolar area.

This course will emphasise a systematic workflow using examples of several endo filing and obturation systems.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Select the proper techniques for shaping canals in premolars.

• Summarise the disinfection and obturation protocols for premolars.

• Identify the restorative options for premolar teeth.

Course 3: Endodontic Therapy - Molar Tooth

Speaker: Dr. Peet van der Vyver (Speaker Biography)

Endodontic treatment for molar teeth is often more difficult than in the anterior or premolar region. Molars have more complex root anatomy and visualisation of the canal orifices is often challenging. An understanding of root anatomy and the proper access preparation shape will help assure successful completion of the endodontic procedure for molars.

This course will emphasise a systematic workflow using examples of several endo filing and obturation systems.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Select the proper techniques for shaping canals in molars.

• Summarise the disinfection and obturation protocols for molars.

• Identify the restorative options for molars.

Mastery

Course 1: Advanced Endodontic Topics Part I: Retreatment Methods & Management of Broken Instruments

Speaker: Dr. Marco Martignoni (Speaker Biography)

The ability to provide comprehensive endodontic care may require knowledge on more complex, less common clinical situations and the required treatment approaches. Magnification will also be addressed in this course. In this course, the learner will be guided through the proper management of endodontic emergencies, removal of separated instruments, and retreatment of endodontically treated teeth.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Identify and address the reasons for instrument separation and the removal of a separated instrument with the aid of magnification.

• Diagnose and correctly pharmaceutically treat endodontic emergencies.

• Describe the aetiology and diagnosis of post-treatment disease. Identify the approach to perforation repair.

Course 2: Advanced Endodontic Topics Part II: Managing Anatomical & Iatrogenic Irregularities in a Successful Business Setup

Speaker: Dr. Patrick Tseng (Speaker Biography)

In this course, the learner will be guided through non-surgical endodontic retreatment, the removal of gutta percha, the management of perforations and the open apex, and the business of endodontics.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Describe the conventional re-treatment workflow.

• Describe the management of iatrogenic perforations and the Open Apex.

• Recognise how to run a profitable practice providing endodontic procedures, including best practices in file use.

Course 3: Endodontics Curriculum Case-Based Capstone

Speaker: Dr. Beth Ann Damas (Speaker Biography)

Employing the foundational, procedure-based, and advanced topics from the endodontic curriculum, this interactive course will follow a case-based approach. Learners will have the opportunity to evaluate and diagnose cases and follow the workflow of endodontic care for clinical success.

As this is the culminating course in the endodontics curriculum, the learner should be able to apply their foundational, procedure-based, and mastery endodontic knowledge to clinical cases.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• List the sequence of data collection for an accurate endodontic diagnosis.

• Identify the workflow and potential complications for clinical cases represented by anterior and molar endodontics.

• Determine when re-treatment is indicated and outline the clinical approach to non-surgical retreatment.

• Select the appropriate clinical approach for managing calcified chambers and canals.
