Glide path management can be a crucial step in root canal preparation. R-Pilot is a motor-driven instrument that can be used for cases where a glide path is needed. R-Pilot is designed to be used in reciprocating motion with a designated drive system having the approved VDW Reciproc® settings.
Use a C-PILOT® file (at least an ISO size 008) or a similar hand file to ensure patency of the root canal.
Use a preoperative radiograph (mandatory) and/or an apex locator to determine the working length.
Use a C-PILOT® file (at least an ISO size 008) or a similar hand file to ensure patency of the root canal.
Insert R-Pilot free without binding into the canal. Press the ON/OFF button or foot pedal of the motor to activate the instrument when it reaches the root canal orifice.
Move the instrument in a slow in-and-out pecking motion. Limit the amplitude of each movement to no more than 3mm. Apply only very light pressure as the instrument advances smoothly in the canal. One full in-and-out movement = one "peck.".
After every 3 pecks, clean the instrument in the interim stand to ensure optimal performance.
Irrigate the canal regularly to maintain cleanliness and fluid flow during the procedure.
Continue repeating steps 4 to 7 until the full working length is reached.
Once the working length is achieved, proceed with your shaping procedure using the file system of your choice.
R-Pilot instruments are made of three main components: the working part made of a nickel-titanium alloy (M-Wire®), a colored silicone stopper and a plated brass shank with an ABS plastic ring.
R-Pilot can be used with the Reciproc® motor settings. If you are already working in reciprocation, you do not need to change the motor.
Use a C-PILOT® file ISO size 08 at minimum or similar hand file to ensure patency and to determine working length.
Similar to all machine-driven root canal instruments, R-Pilot instruments should not be used in a root canal with an abrupt apical curvature due to heightened risk of separation. In this case, pre-curved hand files should be used in the apical region.
R-Pilot instruments are single use devices and cannot be reused. Re-use can increase the risk of cross contamination or breakage.
