Is active irrigation the key to your Endo success? 

Do you remember the exact root canal irrigation protocol you learned? Has it changed? Are you still following it to the letter? A recent survey found the median irrigation time is 2.5 minutes,5 while a passive bleach soak can take up to 40 minutes to effectively eliminate bacteria!4 For a successful root canal, you of course need proper shaping, cleaning, and obturation, but are you doing all you can during that critical step in root canal disinfection? What about active irrigation?

How to

1. Fully prepare canal. 
2. Fill pulp chamber with NaOCI, EDTA or other rinse solution.
3. Select the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Tip that manually fits loosely within 2 mm of working length.

Tips should not be taken closer than 2 mm from the working length

4. Place the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Barrier Sleeve over the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Attachment.
5.  Do not apply the barrier sleeve too tightly over the attachment head. 
6. The barrier should not be penetrated. It is designed to give a complete enclosure of the handpiece and attachment.
7. Attach the selected SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Tip to barrier protected attachment. 

Briefly check proper tip operation outside the patient's mouth before intraoral use. 

8. Place the attached SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Tip into the prepared root canal. 
9. Press the On/Off button once to activate the handpiece. 
10. Use a pumping action to move the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator in short, 2-3 mm vertical strokes. 
11. Hydrodynamically agitate the intracanal solution for 30-60 seconds
12. Press button two times to turn off device. Do not remove the tip from the root canal while still oscillating. 
13. Irrigate, then use intracanal suction to eliminate loose debris.
14. Repeat the above steps for each intracanal irrigant used.

The SmartLite Pro EndoActivator is indicated for intracanal activation of irrigating fluids used for cleaning and disinfecting root canals during an endodontic procedure. 

The SmartLite Pro EndoActivator System is designed to be used in conjunction with endodontic irrigation solutions such as sodium hypochlorite and EDTA. 

  1. Insert battery pack into handpiece. Battery pack is pre-charged however, it may be necessary to charge the battery before first use. 
  2. To recharge the battery: 
  • Connect charging base to USB mini connector. 
  • Make sure power socket used for power connector is accessible at all times in case of necessary emergency disconnection. 
  • Insert the battery onto the charging base. The battery light will illuminate solid orange, indicating battery is recharging and will show constant green when fully charged.
  1. Attach the EndoActivator Attachment to the SmartLite® Pro handpiece by firmly pressing attachment into handpiece opening while slightly rotating at the same moment. 
  2. Protect assembled handpiece and attachment from gross debris by applying a single-use barrier sleeve
  1. Ensure the disposable polyethylene barrier protection sleeve has been correctly applied over the entirety of the attachment and handpiece before beginning a procedure. 
  2. The polyethylene barrier sleeve does not replace cleaning and disinfection of the dental instruments. Please clean and reprocess dental instruments after each patient. 
  3. Do not apply the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator barrier sleeve too tightly over the attachment head to avoid motor stalling or obstructing tip oscillation. Briefly check proper tip operation outside the patient`s mouth before intraoral use. 

Prepare canal to produce a fully tapered shape and select the activator tip that manually fits loosely within 2mm of working length. With clean/disinfected gloves, select a new, unused activator tip. Ensure tip is in the original, undamaged packaging. If packaging is damaged or unsealed, do not use the contaminated activator tip. 

 

Small tip: 22mm length, 0.15mm tip diameter, 15.02 taper.

Medium tip: 22mm length, 0.25mm tip diameter, 25.04 taper.

Medium long tip: 28mm length, 0.25mm tip diameter, 25.04 taper.
