Since its inception in 2004, more than 6,600 dental students have participated, with the 2024-2025 competition drawing close to 300 cases and 110 dental schools. Patient cases are photo-documented, accompanied by English descriptions, and submitted in a standardized format. Participants must be undergraduate students enrolled in a dental college or university from the time of entering the contest until submission of the clinical case. Students enrolled in postgraduate specialization programs are not eligible to participate.
Competition in two categories is possible: direct and indirect restorations. The participant chooses a category, either direct or indirect. For a national or regional final per category to be held, at least 4 clinical cases per category must be submitted.
A university should designate a tutor for its participants. A tutor can range from a dental faculty member to a post-graduate student. Their purpose will be to oversee the student’s clinical case.
