Level 3: Anterior Single-Tooth Dental Implant Procedures

Level 3 Outline

Utilizing procedure-based education*, this level will help the clinician grow into more advanced surgical and prosthetic concepts with the treatment of single tooth anterior implant cases

Throughout this level, the cases will cover topics including:

  • Evaluating buccal and apical bone for immediate placement
  • Grafting around immediate implants (Dual Zone Technique)
  • Defining implant orientation – The Rules of Six
  • Assessing primary stability for immediate provisionalization
  • CAD/CAM abutment options and designs

At the completion of this level, participants will understand how to place and restore a single-tooth implant in the anterior zone. Participants are encouraged to continue their education in Level 4, which will focus on multi-unit cases.

*The implant curriculum is an interactive, procedure-based series of courses that use individual cases to teach current implant treatment. This approach is in contrast to conventional dental education that focuses more on didactic topics and theory. The purpose of using this educational approach is to highlight the patients and procedures found in everyday clinical practice, where the most important concepts are observed and discussed in multiple clinical scenarios.

Illustrating immediate placement and immediate loading protocols
Understanding esthetics principals for ideal outcomes
Summarizing digital impression and provisionalization techniques

Course Topics

Part I: Introduction & Immediate Placement/Immediate Provisionalization

With Mark Ludlow, DMD, MS

In this course, we highlight the complete digital implant workflow with immediate placement and immediate provisionalization for a patient presenting with an unrestorable tooth #8.

Key topics highlighted in this case include:

  • Evaluating buccal and apical bone for immediate placement
  • Key considerations for implant orientation
  • Grafting around immediate implants (Dual Zone Technique)

Part II: Delayed Placement/Immediate Provisionalization

With Bryan Limmer, DMD, MS

In this course, we highlight the digital implant workflow with delayed placement and immediate provisionalization for a patient who developed a recurring infection with tooth #9, years after it was endodontically treated following a trauma to his upper maxilla.

Key topics highlighted in this case include:

  • The implant position’s influence of buccal and interproximal tissue architecture
  • "The Rules of Six" for proper implant positioning
  • CAD/CAM abutment options and designs

Part III: Delayed Placement/Delayed Provisionalization

With Lyndon Cooper, DDS, PhD

This course offers insights into some of the typical esthetic and functional challenges associated with single-tooth implants and how proper treatment planning helps to overcome them. The patient presented missing tooth #9, and was successfully restored using a digital workflow and a delayed placement and delayed provisionalization approach.

Key topics highlighted in this case include:

  • Assessing primary stability and the factors that influence it
  • Considerations for healing abutment selection
  • A simple and predictable digital approach to single-tooth implant restorations

Part IV: Immediate Placement/Immediate Provisionalization

With Lyndon Cooper, DDS, PhD

In this course we highlight the replacement of a fractured maxillary lateral incisor with immediate implant placement and immediate provisionalization.

Key topics highlighted in this case include:

  • Factors for determining if a fractured tooth is restorable or non-restorable
  • Key considerations for implant orientation
  • The 'Rules of Six' for proper implant positioning
